Mission & Purpose 

• What is Pink Ribbon Row? Pink Ribbon Row is Puget Sound’s rowing community dedicated to supporting people affected by breast cancer through connection, movement, education, and community impact. 

• Why does Pink Ribbon Row exist? We bring together survivors, thrivers, caregivers, and allies to build strength, hope, and awareness – on and off the water. 

• How long does Pink Ribbon Row exist? The first annual event was held in 1999. 

• What makes Pink Ribbon Row unique? Pink Ribbon Row stands out because it’s the only rowing‑based nonprofit in the U.S. that mobilizes an entire regional rowing community to raise funds for local breast‑cancer organizations. We blend the power of rowing with awareness, early‑detection education, and post‑diagnosis support—all driven by a 100% volunteer team. The result is a uniquely energetic, community‑wide movement where we strive to leave breast cancer in our wake.  

Participation 

• Who can participate?  Anyone who believes in our mission is welcome, whether or not they have been affected by breast cancer, as a rower, volunteer, or donor.  

• How do I join? Attend our annual regatta, visit the Pink Ribbon Row tent at local events or connect with our Volunteers Committee to join our team. 

• Do I need rowing experience to volunteer? No. We welcome all backgrounds and will provide training when needed.  

• Is rowing safe for breast cancer survivors? Rowing is a low‑impact, full‑body activity that supports mobility and strength. Always consult your medical team for personal guidance. 

• Can I row during treatment? Many participants row during or after treatment, with medical approval and individualized adjustments. 

Events 

• Do you participate in regattas? In addition to hosting our fundraising regatta, Pink Ribbon Row sends a survivor boat to the Head of the Charles in Boston.  

• What are your signature events? Our annual Pink Ribbon Row regatta, outreach days at local events like Windermere Cup, and participation at the Head of the Charles.  

Volunteering & Support 

• How can I volunteer? We offer a wide range of volunteer roles, from behind the scenes to hands- on activities with diverse opportunities that match your talents and schedule. 

• Do you need specialized volunteers? Yes. Skills in fundraising, legal, IT, marketing, and nonprofit operations are especially valuable. 

• Can any rowing club get involved? Yes. Any rowing club, regardless of location, can participate in the regatta, join fundraising efforts, and provide volunteers.   

• How can I donate? Donations directly support survivors and community programs through online giving, event sponsorships, or in‑kind contributions. 

• Are donations tax‑deductible? Yes. Pink Ribbon Row is a registered nonprofit. 

• How much of my donation supports the cause? Because we are 100% volunteer-run, all donations go directly to breast cancer support programs in our community. The cost of the regatta is financed by entry fees.  

• Do you have merchandise? Yes. Merchandise is available for donations at our annual regatta. Look for the Pink Ribbon Row tent.  

• How can my company partner with you? Corporate teams can sponsor events, partner with us, provide incentives, or collaborate on wellness and community initiatives. 

Organization & Governance 

• Who runs Pink Ribbon Row?  We are 100% volunteer‑led, guided by a board and committees. 

• How are funds used? Funds support programs of local health organizations that include early detection services, and after diagnosis support, but never salaries. 

• How do you choose partners? We collaborate with hand-picked local organizations aligned with our mission of compassion, education, and community support.
